Following are several
FAQs on calibration. Most of these are from the isfforum,
which is the public site of a group of the most active isf Calibrators.
You will note that Dave
Hancock, contributed to many of the FAQs.
How Much Does isf Calibration
Cost?
(The
pricing discussed in this FAQ reflects a range of prices, which
includes many high cost areas. Our typical price for
calibration
is lower ($250) and includes all inputs and scan rates that the
customer is using).
How Soon Should I Calibrate My
New HDTV?
(This
is a key point to keep in mind when considering calibration from a Big
Box store that is included with delivery and set-up).
But I Was Told My HDTV Was
Calibrated at the Factory... This is even more important today as several manufacturers offer displays with "isf" or "THX" modes. While these modes may
be more accurate than other modes, they do not mean that the set was
actually "calibrated" at the factory. Even if they were (none
are) "calibrated" at the factory they do not take into account the
normal drft that occurs in the early life of the display.
What About Using My Friend's
Calibrated Settings?
This
FAQ does not touch on sample to sample variations that occur in all
production electronic equipment. My experience shows
significant
variations in optimum settings from set to set of identical models.
I have found several cases where the use of settings published on
various internet forums actually made the picture less accurate!
